“Mev Luna incorporates a close look into the cyclical nature of life and death. Often ignored, and heavily mired in the monotony of routine or nature, Luna’s ardent focus on the intricacies of familial bonds, migration, incarceration, healing, grief, and surveillance via contemporary technology— unearths the very essence of our living and the exact source of our dying. Like the moth that shares Luna’s name, the North American Luna moth’s life cycle lasts but one short year. Associated with sacrifice, rebirth and renewal, the Luna moth’s ephemeral existence symbolizes release and resurgence. ​Luna’s attention to detail in this installation, for instance in the inclusion of the Luna moth wings, is a subtle yet profound gesture aimed at foregrounding not only the literal and theoretical action of fragmenting, obscuring, camouflaging, but also, the perverse nature of surveillance. Here we are encouraged to confront both the seen and the unseen, the written and the retracted, the shared and the secreted.”
